Men of Courage 11 July 2014

Good session with the "Men of Courage" tonight. It is always a struggle to make it out on a Friday night. People just want to rest and relax after a long week of work but if you make the effort to get out you can make gains those enjoying a pizza and beer are missing out on :)

What did we cover? Started with some games for warm up, including Master tag and Hospital tag. By popular request we than recapped some of the basic White/Blue belt curriculum for grading next week, including:

Top Control drill

Mount to Back drill

Basic Circuit drill

Basic guard pass

After that it was rolling and personal game work to finish off.

Great to have some of our friends pop by for a roll. We meet many people on our journey in the martial arts and whilst some will walk the path with us for many years, others will be with us for but a while, yet it is always nice to catch up and share some mat time.

Chilling out max and relaxing all cool.

Training - Wed 9.7.14

Our first training in the new dojo at 7 Wickham street and even though injury relegated me to the sidelines I still tried to be of some benefit through being class photographer, sideline assistant coach  and giver of unwanted critique and advice :).

It was so great to see the commitment from those present to their jiu-jitsu along with the great atmosphere of shared learning and fun (a few Asahi at the end helped as well, wonder if we can get sponsorship ;) ).

For those who weren't there, other than the initial warm up and rolling at the end, the techniques covered were as follows:

Side control escapes

1. Shotput and switchout rolling escape.

2. Setting up the escape with a sidewinder shuffle.

3. Hiptrack escape from north/south when they transition from side control.

4. Countering the D'Arce/Anaconda counter to the escape with an arm trap and roll.

Open half guard / 93 guard

1. Achieving basic open half guard.

2. Far side figure 4 from open half guard.

If none of that makes any sense to you....you probably should have been at class.

See you on the mat,

Travis

Yes ladies, Byron is available for Hen's nights
The master of all he surveys
 Handsome bunch of fellows
Pass or top figure 4 set up?
You must be grappling super fast when your photo looks like The Flash
 Reps and rolling
This could go either way :)
The Match vs The Mountain :)
To forearm choke or not to forearm choke, that is the question.
"If I jump down from that beam up there, I'm pretty sure I can get him in back choke as he walks through the door"
 Best way to end class

Sponsor's product? (hint, hint).

Gym "Before" photos.

For those who haven't seen them yet:

Tuesday mat cleaning

As there was a little bit of sunshine peeking through the time was used to gently water blast all the mats with a mix of Handy Andy and Janola.
On Tuesday we will need to spray the mats with a disinfectant and make sure the floor side of the mats are dry to minimise a moist environment suitable for mold growth.

To Infinity and Beyond...

Andrew

Project One

Project One for the New Location at Wickham Street.
=========================================
The things we need...

1. Carpet underlay 91 m2
Does anyone know where we could get some corrugated, rubberized underlay?
Ideally for free.
Second hand is fine.
It will make a big difference to the comfort of our rolling if we could lay this under our mats

2. A desk
3. Some Shelves
4. A whiteboard
5. Some benches/ garden chairs.

Thanks for all the support, comments and likes. The initial project is to get the mats down.First we need to clean them. We are doing this

5:30pm Tuesday evening 8th July.

Please brig mops buckets and brooms. If anyone has a steam mop please bring it along. I will supply the disinfectant.

Hygiene Policy.
===========
No bare feet in the toilet area. Please bring jandals, crocs or whatever footwear is best for you. When you leave the mat use your footwear and when you return to the mat leave for footwear behind.

Cleaning Roster
============
I will make sure the toilet area is kept clean. we will then have a roster that will be superseded by a penalty for forgetting to bring your Gi or belt to training. Absent minded people will be on cleaning duty.

Thanks for all the support guys.
What has motivated me with the club is the culture of personal development, overcoming of ego and the examples of personal service to other club members.

Thank you

Andrew
